Nor Cal Mythos Entertainment, a California based Indie tabletop role-playing game developer and makers of Carbyne Jungle, is introducing its most recent project: Mission Decks. Each 100+ card deck comes with everything needed to play the game. Designed for repeatedly play, each will come with multiple embedded storylines. Set to arrive on Kickstarter on February 18th of this year, these two Mission Decks will include everything a party needs to run a GM-less game or a no-prep gaming session.
The decks come in two flavors: Haedus 8B and Khieron’s Keep. Haedus 8B is built upon Nor Cal Mythos’ Carbyne Jungle gaming system, released in 2019. Built in a sci-fi/fantasy setting, Haedus 8B explores an abandoned research center, lost to time and the horrors inside. Khieron’s Keep is built using the D&D5e open gaming license, exploring the ancient ruins which hold a dark secret. Both decks contain cards for randomly drawn rooms, monsters to oppose or even help the party, non-player character cards, equipment for players to discover, and boss templates. Broken into level tiers, there is a mission Deck that is ready to go for every gaming table.
Beyond just the cards, Nor Cal Mythos’ Mission Decks come with extra tools for repeated gameplay and to allow for varied styles of play. Each deck in the Kickstarter comes with a digital copy along with access to the Web-Based App designed for the deck. The digital copy comes with PDFs of each map for players to print out 8.5 x 11-inch maps of each card, large enough to incorporate miniatures into gameplay. Additionally, the app can load the contents of each map onto tablets for miniatures and generate loot rewards and conflicts. The App also increases replayability. Once players have completed the storyline on the cards, using the App, tables can go through additional storylines and reveal more secrets of the keep.
Mission Decks bring another dimension to tabletop role-playing games. Designing decks for two different systems along with versions for different level tiers, Nor Cal Mythos’ Mission Decks are a system built to appeal to wide audience. The unique project hits Kickstarter on February 18th with expected delivery in November of 2020.
Nor Cal mythos Entertainment was founded in 2019 and is based in Salinas, California.
