Boston, MA – February 25, 2020 – Unispace, a global leader in workplace strategy, design and construction, sat down with Regional Director, Delivery – The Americas, Tracy Lea Neff to discuss what International Women’s Day’s #EachforEqual means for her as a woman and a leader in the male-dominated construction industry. Prior to joining Unispace, Neff served as Director of U.S. Workplace Design and Construction at PricewaterhouseCoopers for nearly seven years. She has been with Unispace for over six months, working diligently and successfully to lead the delivery group into the next phase of growth in the Americas.
Tracy discusses her experience both within Unispace and beyond, explaining what has made her the hardworking leader she is and how we can really strive for #EachforEqual. She believes the impetus lies in companies creating feasible paths to growth in the positions they offer to women, as well as all candidates from varied backgrounds – and that construction can offer women a challenging and fulfilling career.
When it comes to significant change in terms of workplace equality, Neff commented, “Companies that are evolved recognize the value of a diverse workplace and how that richness elevates everything they do.” Currently, women comprise approximately a mere 9 percent of the construction industry, according to the National Association of Women in Construction. She added that, “a company with a diverse leadership team truly will be the future key to success. Companies that are not diverse at each and every level of their organization, at some point in the future, will not be relevant.”
Tracy’s words of wisdom to young women interested in following suit and becoming a leader in their field? “Go for it!” She explains, “My success is a direct result of my parents’ encouragement and guidance. In fact, from a very young age, my father encouraged me to push boundaries, and he constantly reinforced the importance of math and science. He set the bar very high for me, and then he told me I could do it!”
