LOS ANGELES, CA – MAY 21, 2020 – XR Studios used revolutionary Extended Reality technology to create a virtual experience for the premiere performance of Katy Perry’s “Daisies” during the American Idol finale on May 17. The digital production company’s mission is to create cost-effective and cutting edge AR, MR and XR performances for the live entertainment industry.
Katy Perry’s comic-esque production combined various virtual elements, including Katy interacting with virtual daisies falling from the sky. The performance directed by long-standing Perry collaborators Baz Halpin and J.T. Rooney. The stunning virtual environment was filmed in real-time and created by Silent Partners Studios of Montreal & Los Angeles, with video technical direction by Scott Millar. The event was filmed at PRG Studios in Los Angeles with their production resources and technical collaboration, where PRG provided a safe environment that supported the production within COVID-19 guidelines.
“At XR Studios, our goal is to push the technology to its limits, to develop workflows tailored to live entertainment, and to work directly with industry professionals to expand creative possibilities. We are here to serve the many talented creatives and producers in live entertainment,” says Cory FitzGerald.
