Growing up on Long Island has not been easy for Cheska Miranda, professionally known as Francesca Miranda. After growing up in a segregated town and being bullied throughout school, Francesca lost her self-confidence. She did not feel needed and went through stages of depression. Writing poetry and self-reflecting helped her on her journey to self-love. Her first spoken word audio titled, “Number One” has been streamed over 15,000 times. You can see her spoken word posts and poetry more on her personal Instagram. (www.instagram.com/iamcheska)
Her “Number One” audio talks about having self-love and putting yourself first. She says “You are the light and love of the world” and constantly repeats the phrase “You are number one”. She wanted people to realize that it is okay to think of your happiness sometimes. Her other spoken word that was released in May speaks about prayer. Cheska says a prayer and apologizes for her selfishness. Her spoken word has helped guide people and help them find their truest self.
Due to the current events of the United States, she has taken a huge pause with her writing and spoken word. Instead, she has decided to help her Long Island community. After the death of George Floyd, multiple protests erupted due to the outrage of injustice in the United States. After attending a protest near her hometown, she was inspired to do more. She curated the Instagram account “Justice For George LI” (https://www.instagram.com/justiceforgeorgeli/). She has over 12,000 followers and posts updates daily. Her post about the East Meadow protest that took place on June 12 became viral and has been reported in multiple news outlets.
At the age of 22, Cheska Miranda (Francesca Miranda) is always trying to do the best for her community. She is a clear advocate for equal rights and self-love. Her ambition and passion to do good for the world will change peoples’ lives.
