United States – July 22, 2020 – Rev. Dr. Anne Hays Egan announces the release of her new book, Building Communities Of Hope: How People Are Making Positive Change. This book is targeted toward the development of vibrant, joy-filled, and healthy communities engaged in sharing love and hope with their neighbors. Stories about everyday heroes give us inspirtation and “power for the journey.” Some of these community leaders are heroes featured by local and national media, who have won awards for their work.
This book, Building Communities Of Hope, helps readers see how they can move forward, empowered, and purpose-filled because they are fueled by hope. That hope is grounded in a belief that people are hard-wired for the good, and there’s data to support that belief!
The writer explains how collaborative work makes a substantial collective impact over time, with the right resources. Those are identified in both the stories and narrative chapters that provide practical tools. Anne believes we can make a difference, and shows us how that’s being done by communities around the country. Written for everyone, the author helps people build momentum when communities gain access to the resources, policies, tools, and levers of power needed to make long-lasting systemic change.
The book includes important stories of community transformation, with chapters that include:
- “People Who Inspire Hope”
- “Living in the Slipstream”
- “Miracles in the Middle Rio Grande”
- “Packaging Hope in Purple Tennis Shoes”
- “He Came Home to Die and Lives to Transform his Community”
- “Holding Onto Hope When the Going Gets Rough”
- “Perseverance in La Borinquena”
- “Multiplying Wealth in its Many Forms”
- “The Harmonics of our Lives”
Rev. Dr. Anne encouarages us to be our best selves. She shows us how many people just like you and me are everyday heroes, making a positive difference in their communities. She demonstrates how these people are inspiring others and leveraging resources for a huge collective impact.
During times like these, with the immense suffering caused by COVID-19, we need hope more than ever. Rev. Dr. Anne explains that it’s important to have the kind of practical hope that allows us to be hopeful with our eyes wide open to the difficulties we face in our communities – from the pandemic and its healthcare challenges, to the serious economic setbacks that are severely threatening the already marginalized.
Her book includes a structural and systems analysis that the author explains is “essential for any sort of long-lasting hope.” Changing our structures and systems, so that there is full equity for all people is part of the Roadmap of Hope.
Building Communities Of Hope was inspired by the author’s doctoral dissertation. It includes both research, narrative, and lots of stories about a diverse group of people and communities. Anne says: “I’ve been working in community system development, healthcare and aging for decades. Increasingly, I’m finding that partnering with community heroes, and lifting them up is an essential part of effective community building work.”
The author hopes the stories which have inspired her will be an inspiration to others as well. She hopes that the book provides tools to help leaders make their communities stronger, healthier, and more resilient.
“I’ve written this book trusting that these reflections and stories about hope will touch something in you, and be a resource to unleash and turbocharge the power of hope in your life. Please look to find messages in these chapters that tug at your inner knowing about your gifts.”
An author, community building consultant, and ordained Presbyterian minister, Rev. Dr. Anne Hays Egan has worked in partnership with hundreds of community leaders throughout the country. Her consulting includes research, planning, system building, and mobilizing communities to meet their goals.
