Starting in November The Bay Lights will begin to glimmer at the onset of dusk. The extended hours for illuminating the bridges with LED light will begin at the opening of the final fall month.
The lengthened show will be made possible by Illuminate the Arts, a nonprofit group which produces the 25,000 LED lights that will dazzle onlookers.
The organization took ti upon itself to change the previous shutoff time of 2 am, and has ensured that the Bay Lights will shine whenever darkness descends upon the Bay Area. The lights were formerly standard lights, and a standard shut-off time was set for the finish of the lights to conserve energy. Thanks to the use of the LED lights, the showing can now last longer as the total emissions of energy is much lower with the light type.
“Our team worked hard to give visitors and locals alike more time each night to enjoy the light sculpture,” Illuminate the Arts board chairman Ben Davis said in a statement. The lights will do more than simply illuminate, as there will be a list of variations in lighting types and sequences that are meant to dazzle those onlookers who want to take in the fantastic spectacle. It is said to sure add a whimsical feel to the Bay Bridge area.
The head artist of the project, Leo Villareal, has programmed sequences for the extended hours. The showings will begin after 2 am. On November 2 at 6:30 am. Illuminate the Arts is set to hold its own celebration for the all-night lights at the Ferry Building on the same day.
The gathering will involve refreshments that will be provided for the attendees who will gather to watch the Bay Lights as the sun rises.
