Young Volunteer Coordinates a Pancake Breakfast for Community

Fundraiser event for a second-chance group for addicts and former inmates

Anna Priebe is often the first to raise her hand when there is a need for someone to help. As Anna’s mother says, “She has a very compassionate heart. Her heart is drawn to helping people.”

The charitable spirit of Anna will coalesce when the Sacajawea Middle School hosts a breakfast at the Evangelical Free Church in order to benefit Alive Again Life Recovery Mission. The breakfast is a good ole-fashion pancake breakfast that is sure to have all smiling despite the early-to-rise need.

The Alive Again Life Recovery Mission is an organization that assist those with addiction struggles and those who are rehabilitating after stints in jail or prison. The goal of the organization is to help those in need get back on track.

Alive Again Director, Steve DeBoer’s company started nearly four years ago, and now over 40 individuals participate in a weekly dinner. The meetings often involve a praise music activity and a 12-step study to help those struggling to better themselves through positive social interaction and faith.

For DeBoer, having an eighth grader volunteer to help out of the kindness of her own heart is something special. “It’s just blown us away,” he said.

The pancake breakfast was organized by Anna all as a part of the Two Roads Project, and Billings program that was initially has been offered by the Middle School since 2012. The project gives a student a $100 budget to use toward a activity or community project.

After throwing her name into the ring to assist the community, Anna was selected to do her work in which she choose its manifestation. After nearly a week of brainstorming, Anna decided that the pancake breakfast was the best strategy.

“Just helping them out would be neat,” Anna said.
