Easter Seals NH to Auction Off Customized Motorcycles

Proceeds from the auctions will help Veterans Count to assist service members.

In an effort to bring awareness to the needs of our service members, veterans, and their families, Veterans Count, a program of Easter Seals in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is teaming up with DIRICO Motorcycles USA and Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. DIRICO has customized a series of motorcycles handcrafted in military schemes for each military branch with unique artwork.

On Sunday, Jan. 19th, two of the bikes will be auctioned off in Scottsdale, Arizona by Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. Fox Sports Network will televise the event as it happens. One of the bikes is U.S. Marine Corps themed and the other honors the “Black Hawk Down” incident that occurred during the Battle of Mogadishu.

Retired Col. Danny McKnight will be on hand as spokesperson for Veterans Count as the “Black Hawk Down” custom motorcycle is unveiled to a national audience and auctioned off. McKnight was involved in the “Black Hawk Down” incident as it unfolded in Somalia. He was recruited by the Seacoast Chapter of Veterans Count last May to speak at the first annual SOS event and has been committed to this mission ever since.

Proceeds from the auctions will help Veterans Count to assist veterans and servicemembers for medical bills, child care, food, transportation, utilities, housing and much more. “We are extremely grateful to Steve Talarico, president of Dirico Motorcycles, who has played an instrumental role in connecting the right people to make all of this happen for our veterans and their families,” said Karen Van Der Beken, Easter Seals Chief Development Officer.

“The sale of these motorcycles will allow us to continue to help the military families we serve every day,” she added. The effort has helped over 2,400 servicemembers and their families since 2007. We have also dispersed nearly $1.5 million in emergency assistance, said Van Der Beken. The remaining custom rods will be auctioned off in April by Barrett-Jackson in Palm Beach, Florida. They pay tribute to Women in the Military, Navy SEAL Team 6 and the U.S. Army bike, which was signed by Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler.
