America in the 21st century is dominated by technology and urban culture. This has diminished the importance of outdoor exploration and the immense natural beauty that still pervades much of the country. Photographer and naturalist Ryan J. Eckert is planning a 10,000 mile journey through Western United States and Canada to capture the majestic beauty of these landscapes and reignite a passion for the outdoors.. He will be camping and backpacking deep into the wilderness to capture the hidden gems of these areas, some of which have never been professionally photographed before.
Ryan has recently graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in environmental sociology and has an in depth understanding about the relationship between society and the environment. He is an avid backpacker and frequents the Rocky Mountains on wilderness excursions to find retreat from what he describes as “the hustle of the concrete jungle.” To him the outdoors is more than just a place to visit, it is a sanctuary and through this project he hopes share the serenity of the natural world.
Ryan has already accumulated the necessary camera, backpacking gear and funding for travel expenses, but he needs your help. He has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to raise the funds needed to self publish a photobook of the images from his adventures entitled “Tales from the Backcountry—Six Months in Western America.” In return for your generous support, you will receive valuable perks like postcards, signed and matted artisan prints, the photobook, or even a personalized guided backpacking tour.
