Raleigh, North Carolina – May 11, 2015 – The Democratic Republic of Congo and Republic of Congo will be represented in the 2015 Miss Earth Pageant for the first time in history. This will finally provide a role model that will represent the Congolese women with pride and become an influence to end the threats against females residing in the Congo. However, in order to qualify for the main event there must be a qualifying Miss Earth Congo pageant held. In order to make this possible, creators have launched an IndieGoGo campaign to raise $5,000.
There are sexual and non-sexual threats towards the women living in the Congo and the need to take a stand against this violence is crucial. Since the year 2000, over 2 million women have been attacked. They are viewed as inferior according to social norms in both the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Congo. Many experience great challenges even just to get an education. This is appalling to see and it is time to join the movement to break the cycle of violence. The time is now to help these women grow within society and bring in a female role model that will represent and empower the Congolese women.
The Miss Earth pageant is an annual international beauty pageant that emphasizes environmental awareness and conservation. It is televised in over 189 countries and titleholders can put their focus on promoting and protecting various global issues. This will be the first time a Congolese woman will be part of the event and it offers an historical opportunity for these women to represent the Congo on a global scale. Not only will this shed light on the poor treatment of women, but also give the females of the Congo a role model to look up to. They will have a representative that will be their advocate for change and hopefully give them a real future.
Funds raised from the campaign will help pay for the first National Miss Earth Congo Pageant and fashion show that will be held on July 28th to August 1, 2015. The event will be at the Ritz Raleigh in Raleigh North Carolina. Anything received passed the minimum goal will definitely help make the event even better!
Those wishing to make a contribution to join the movement to help change the way women are treated in the Congo can do so by visiting the IndieGoGo campaign or clicking here. Backers can choose from many attractive rewards as a “thank you” for the support.
Please share this with others on Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks. Let people know how they can help the females of the Congo break the cycle of violence and finally experience peace to live a fulfilling life.
