“New Historical Novel The Spanish Patriot”

Author Nicky Penttila is pleased to announce the upcoming release of her new historical novel, The Spanish Patriot. Releasing in September 2015, this is the second historical novel by Penttila, who is also a romance author. Her first historical fiction work, An Untitled Lady (ISBN: 978-1943192007) was released in December 2013 and received rave reviews from Publishers Weekly, the Historical Novel Society, and USA Today.

Praise for An Untitled Lady:

“The social turmoil in Manchester leading to the Peterloo Massacre of 1819 is the unusual setting for Penttila’s quietly stunning, memorable debut novel. A very highly recommended book.” — Historical Novel Society
“Penttila shows a deft hand with complex, believable characterizations that accurately reflect the historical period.” — Publishers Weekly
“Powerful. Disturbing. Heartbreaking. Smart. Occasionally gentle, often brutal. And always enthralling. An atypical setting, an actual historical event, masterfully layered characters and a sophisticated, seamless narrative — An Untitled Lady is a standout, gripping historical romance, unlike any Regency you’ve ever read.” — USA Today

Some fly to war. Others flee it. No one is safe.
When the British army is sent into Spain to help expel Napoleon’s invaders, nothing goes as expected. Not for London newsman Sam Kerr, hunting a story that will win him the editor’s chair, who discovers one that could wreck his career. Not for the Wakefield family, loyalist refugees from America seeking peace among people of their faith, who find war has followed them even here. And certainly not for the British troops, whose mission of support turns into a run for all their lives. Historical fiction set in Corunna 1808. Think Bernard Cornwell plus Jane Austen with a modern sensibility, and you’ll get a flavor of Nicky Penttila’s writing.
About The Author:

Nicky Penttila writes stories of history, adventure, ideas, and love. Her historical novels take place during real events, including the Peterloo march in 1819 and Napoleon’s time aboard HMS Bellerophon in 1815. She enjoys coming up with stories that are set in faraway cities and countries, because then she *must* travel there, you know, for research. A web editor for science news by day, Penttila spent two decades as a newspaper journalist, at the Hartford Courant, the San Francisco Examiner, and the Baltimore Sun. A Michigan native, she now lives in Hyattsville, Maryland, with her reading-mad husband and amazing rescue cat. She’s chattiest on Twitter, @NickyPenttila, and may also be found at nickypenttila.com
