SARASOTA, Florida – June 24, 2015 – Mahalia Jackson was the world’s first gospel superstar. Known as “The Queen of Gospel,” Mahalia was a multiple Grammy winner, a civil rights activist, and business entrepreneur. Entertainer Harry Belafonte described her as “the single most powerful black woman in the United States.” She’s influenced many, including the author, director, and producer Sharon E. Scott, who has created a musical theater tribute to the music legend entitled, “Just As I Am.”
“Just As I Am,” is a two-person musical production that explores the life of the gospel superstar. Sharon created the production after dedicating years of her life researching, as well as being inspired by, Mahalia Jackson’s story. This labor of love, will not only be an inspiring and touching tribute, but a starting point of conversations. A non-threatening opener, which allows people the comfort to have a meaningful conversation—together. However, before Sharon can bring this production to the world, she needs help. That’s why she started a Kickstarter. The goal of this project to raise $20,500 by July 13, 2015 and the funds raised will go toward venues, marketing, and production costs.
To help bring this touching musical theater tribute to life, please visit the Kickstarter campaign or click here. Perks will be delivered between October 2015 and February 2016.
Please keep in mind this is an “all-or-nothing” deal, which means if the campaign does not reach the funding goal then the project cannot move forward. So know that any amount given, matters! This is an incredible opportunity to be a part of a special campaign! Help “Just As I Am” reach the goal by sharing this on Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks. The more people know about this, the more support the campaign will receive.
