As new homeowners move into the community, Kuester Management Company offers tips for easing the transition and making homeowners feel more welcome.

Summer is a prime time for moving. Children are out of school and families use this time off to get situated in their new home and neighborhood before another school year begins. Moving into an HOA community can be a big change if they have not lived in one before, and it can also be intimidating when they don’t know anyone. In a new statement to the press, Kuester Management Group provides ways the HOA board can ease these transitions.

“In order to build stronger relationships and improve the function of the HOA, communication is key,” says Bryan Kuester, President of Kuester Management Group. “New homeowners need to know what the organization is all about and feel as though they are part of the neighborhood before they are likely to get more involved.”

Having a welcoming committee in place is a great way to get to know new HOA members encourages Kuester. “Have a team of two or three people in place who greet homeowners and provide them with essential information to help them get settled. This could include information about trash and recycling pick up, use of community amenities, locations of grocery stores and other retailers, and attractions in the area.”

Committee members should also be well-versed in the rules and regulations of the HOA so that they are able to address any questions homeowners may have. Providing previous copies of newsletters, meeting minutes, and other updates can keep new residents abreast of what is going on within the neighborhood.

“Becoming familiar with people who are on the Board and understanding its mission and purpose can encourage homeowners to become more involved,” says Kuester. “When they feel welcomed and a part of the community, they want to help make it a better place and offer their talents.”

Setting new homeowners up for success by ensuring they are informed about how the HOA works, important guidelines to follow, how to bring up questions or concerns, and ways to become a more integral part of the community can make everyone’s lives a little easier. Partnering with a professional management group such as Kuester can provide HOAs with even more support and strategies for maintaining positive operations and relationships.
