In the beginning of the year, the Takoma Park Seventh-day Adventist Church declared 2015 as the year of serving and since then the compassionate team of church leaders and attendees has continued to carry out their mission to serve the community of Takoma Park, Maryland through prayer, compassion and kindness. Continuing with the theme of the year, the Takoma Park Church will be hosting a community event on August 29 at 6pm to offer prayer and blessings/celebration for the families and children of the DC/Metropolitan area. Following on August 30 at 10 am, the Takoma Park Church will further host a Community Day event which will feature an Art Show, Music, Food, and Entertainment including a moon-bounce for the kids. Both events will be held at 6951 Carroll Ave, Takoma Park, MD 20912.
The local news has reported a trend of recent unfortunate community violence and unrest which has brought on an air of nihilism, in response the Takoma Park Church hopes that the upcoming events will engage the community and inspire fun and praise. Kindness and compassion towards one another and love are the foundation of a strong and prosperous community. The Church wants to create a positive and beneficial experience that will help to refocus the local community’s attention on moving forward and rebuilding positive relationships.
“Families matter, children’s lives matter, let’s try something new, let’s come together and pray for the well-being of our children and young people. It’s time to work together to grow positive relationships and build a strong and united community!” says Naudrey Jenkins
Many of the attendees of the Takoma Park Church refer to it as a second home, a place where they can find a welcoming, healing and caring atmosphere; the church hopes to spread the same feeling among those members of the community that are feeling left out. The events are one of the many ways the church is actively serving the community and its people by enriching their lives through prayer, fun and a sense of unity during this third quarter of their year of serving.
“I am extremely excited because this is an opportunity for us to share our warmth and love with people in our community who in some cases may be feeling overlooked. The goal of the event is to affirm them and encourage them and to provide resources where needed. On behalf of the Takoma Park Seventh-day Adventist Church, I welcome everyone who is available to attend and enjoy themselves,” says Senior Pastor Henry Wright.
The Takoma Park Church is a part of the Potomac Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists within the North American Division. They host both contemporary and traditional worship services to meet the worship needs of all who come and worship with them.
