The Alberta Rockies Gay Rodeo Association is a non-profit, volunteer organization whose focus is on making communities better places for everyone. ARGRA fights to protect rural youth who do not have extensive LGBT resources as those do who are in the cities, offering a local camp that is a safe zone for these young people along with a rodeo school for training in cowboy and cowgirl techniques. One of the events that helps support these efforts is the annual Canadian Rockies International Rodeo and Music Festival.
“Canadian Rockies International Rodeo (CRIR) is an International Gay Rodeo Association (IGRA) sanctioned event. We proudly boast the most unique rodeo on the IGRA circuit. We are able to offer all our events at one location, no other rodeo does this. This makes our event a favorite destination for many of the rodeo contestants and spectators. Another unique aspect of our event is that men and women compete equally in all events, with an all round cowboy and cowgirl crowned at awards sunday. It is truly an international event with people coming from all corners of the globe to attend,” notes Craig McPhee, Events Director.
Funding for the events each year is always challenging, so the organization has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the CRIR2016, a yearly rode and music festival featuring the best in country music by artists of all types. Last year we featured LeAnn Rimes, Village People, Tim Hicks, George Canyon, Emerson Drive, Kira Issabella, Aaron Pritchett, Tebey, Ty Herndon, King & Cash. As you can see its an amazing three days of rodeo and music with the goal of helping local charities. The Kickstarter campaign accepts donations in any amount, but pledges of $8,000 or more will receive a reserved staffed cabana for 10 at the next two yearly events as a thank-you.
