New York, NY – The leader in social media monitoring for parents and their kids, ThirdParent, has launched a Kickstarter campaign with the goal of providing a free version of the company’s popular social media monitoring resource. This service helps parents proactively safeguard their kids online.
“We started ThirdParent after coming to the conclusion that most of our friends had no idea what their kids were doing online,” explains Rob Zidar, one of ThirdParent’s founders. “We set out to build the most comprehensive tool possible to help parents understand their kids’ internet activity better, guide them in teaching their kids more responsible behavior, and most importantly, respect their child’s privacy.”
Though there are upsides to social media, we have all seen the dangers—predators, cyberbullying, talking to strangers, developing anti-social tendencies, and psychological issues are all some of the possibilities. In fact, 82% of child predator incidents were initiated online. Yet, due to the electronic nature, parents often do not know what is going on until it is too late.
ThirdParent works by compiling a comprehensive audit, i.e., social score, of a child’s online social media activity. Privacy is of the utmost importance, and ThirdParent never asks for user names or passwords, and only collects public information so a parent will never have to worry about invading their child’s privacy. This is important because an open dialogue between parent and child is paramount to successful digital parenting.
“Ironically, after we launched ThirdParent, I Googled one of my kids and found that because of a ‘same name’ fluke, page 1 of the search results was filled with porn,” Rob Zidar shared, “We were able to clean that up, but it goes to show you that parents need to always be watching. We help with that.”
In exchange for pledging to the project, backers can gain access to a variety of rewards including the chance to become one of the first parents to try the new ThirdParent LITE Social Score for one of your children or teens for $20, the original, comprehensive ThirdParent Social Score for $39 (originally $75), a full ThirdParent Social Score and one year of monitoring, including daily alerts as unsafe or inappropriate activity is found, for $99.
