Planting flowers or giving porches and shutters a fresh coat of paint can be an easy way to enhance the look and feel of the property. Getting walkways, porches, and siding power washed once a year can help as well and remove any built up grime or debris. Kuester adds that this can also encourage neighbors to do the same when they see that you are taking steps to keep things looking fresh.

“Another simple strategy is to clean up after yourselves,” comments Kuester. “Bring in any toys or materials you may have been using after you are done. Once the trash and recycling has been collected, pull in your bins and store them in the garage or side yard so that they are out of the way. Clean up any downed limbs or trash after a storm to keep things looking neat and orderly.”

Of course it is imperative that before making any changes – being it paint colors, fixtures, or additions – that homeowners check the HOA rules to ensure they are abiding by set policies. If they have any questions, it is better to be safe and check before moving ahead.

On a final note, Kuester reminds homeowners, “Be practical and consider the impression your home and yard make and what image you are presenting. Be mindful of keeping up with cutting the lawn and maintaining a clean look that preserves the integrity of the community.”
