August 2015: Students from Hindustan University celebrated Onam Week along with other international students from over 23 countries. All students celebrated Onam week in traditional Kerala Attire and many students were in the Premam Movie style. The Chief Guest of the celebration was the national award winning play back singer Shri. P. Unni Krishnan and the Guest of Honour was Malayalam movie industry’s new heart throb Ms. Mrudula Murali.

Shri P Unni Krishnan addressed the gathering and emphasized on the development of an individual as a whole. He also mesmerized the audience with some of his hit songs that left the students roaring for more. Shri Unni Krishnan was accompanied by his daughter Uthara Unnikrishnan and wife Priya Unni krishnan. The guest of honour Mrudula Murali also expressed her surprise at the spirit of the students and applauded their effort to celebrate Onam in such a grand manner outside Kerala

33 International student belonging to various universities & schools in Taiwan who had visited Hindustan University as part of As part of an exchange program also participated in the Onam week celebrations among other rich multicultural events which included authentic south Indian food, colorful Kolam making, dance performances,  wearing of traditional dresses and Bhumi Pooja for International student’s hostel building at the University.  The even saw great energy among students who took the campus to “mahabali days”.

The event was very colourful with a wide variety of performances by the students including traditional Kerala dances such as Kai kotti Kali, Mohiniyattam, Oppana, and folk dance along with some amazing light music performances. Chendamelam by a Professional team of 18 artists from Kerala was a feast to both eyes and ears. The arrival of maveli also amplified the celebrations . A scrumptious OnamSadhya with 25 dishes was served on banana leaves. The students also played “Vadam-Vali”, and the celebrations ended on a high note with a 15 minute long “Chenda–melam” performance.
