In a bold attempt to put an end to the classic form of educational, lecture style documentaries, Discovery was born. By adopting “Action, Gopro cameras, and thrilling adventures,” Discovery’s team has created an immersive experience that explores other countries; cultures, natural wonders, and even ancient stories. As stated by the creator himself, Discovery will even allow viewers to become involved in the creation of each episode;
“Armed with action cameras, and ideas from our viewers, our crew will brave the hottest deserts, the coldest peaks, and the darkest jungles to not only show you how the native populations survive, but to make you feel as if you are experiencing the awe inspiring moments yourself. The adventures will be dangerous, the experiences will be real, and the stories will be unbelievable.”
Now, this creative team has launched a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise funds for the initial episodes. Currently the pilot episode, which is to be shot in the Himalayas, is in the final stages of planning and approaching production. The show will focus on the places and adventures overlooked by your typical travel show. Using Gopro cameras strapped onto the heads and chests of the film crew. This will allow them to see other countries and cultures up close and personal and to get the “real story” behind everyday events as well as to allow viewers to experience their adventures in a way never before possible.
Located here, the Kickstarter campaign offers pledge levels from $10 to $10,000, while even the smallest donations are appreciated, and prizes from; postcards, memorabilia, artwork, and autographed copies of season one, to a chance to be part of the pilot’s filming experience. Not only that, but the show will also help support a different charity, chosen by their viewers, by spreading awareness every season. Life-changing expeditions, the world’s hidden secrets, charity, and an hour to yourself to take it all in? I don’t know about you, but that sounds good to me!
