Xiamen, China – Yesterday, County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, presented the County’s Value Proposition at two events in Xiamen, the Fujian Chamber of Commerce Luncheon and the Shaanxi Business Matchmaking event. Both events included introduction of the 22-person delegation and their projects, and presentations on why Prince George’s County is the gateway to the U.S. market. At the Fujian Chamber of Commerce, County Executive Baker addressed over 300 foreign and domestic guests for a dialog on, “Building a Smart and Beautiful Home With Mobile Connectivity.” The roundtable discussion included a discussion on how new media can be utilized for promoting the exchanges and cooperation among sister cities.
“We understand this is a global economy and we want to be an active participant in the world economy by developing partnerships that will lead to fair trade and investment that benefits both parties, mutual cooperation,” said County Executive Baker. “We use social media vehicles to stay connected, and to better inform our citizens and our businesses. We use them for emergency management, and for community forums, for informing them of impending storms or danger in their area.”
Attended by 800+ people, the Shaanxi Business Matchmaking event gave even more attention to Prince George’s County as EDC President Jim Coleman shared information about the delegates projects and investment opportunities in Prince George’s County.
In addition to presenting Prince George’s County to various groups of Chinese investors, the 22-person Prince George’s County delegation participated in CIFIT 2015 – the world’s most prestigious international investment exposition. The 19th Annual China International Fair for Investment & Trade, held at Xiamen International Conference & Exhibition Center, attracts investment promotion agencies from more than 40 countries and regions. CIFIT provides overseas investors with comprehensive knowledge of the investment environment and policies, prospective projects and achievements in China and creates opportunities for introducing advanced technologies, management skills and specialized personnel from abroad.
This second trade mission to China hopes to attract foreign investment for County Executive Baker’s economic development plans in Prince George’s County and for a number of projects that members of the delegation have in their pipeline.
