ANN ARBOR, Michigan – September 18, 2015 – The Homebuyer’s Agent of Ann Arbor, Southeastern Michigan’s largest exclusive buyers agency, is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the National Association of Exclusive Buyer Agents (NAEBA).
Until the 1980s, virtually all real estate agents represented the seller in a real estate transaction. With the advent of Exclusive Buyer Agency, where a real estate brokerage only represents the buyer in any transaction, rights and protection were also developed for buyers. This helped eliminate conflicts of interest. Jon Boyd, the broker/owner of The Homebuyer’s Agent, has been advocating on behalf of home owners since then, even helping to push legislation through the Michigan senate protecting the interests of home buyers.
In February of 1995, 175 people, including Boyd, attended an inaugural meeting in Olive Branch, MS, creating NAEBA, a nonprofit association solely dedicated to those brokerages practicing Exclusive Buyer Agency and the protection of real estate purchasers. Boyd served as president of NAEBA in 2007. NAEBA has members in almost all 50 states and is regularly contacted by consumer groups, media outlets, and individual consumers seeking advice on buying real estate.
“Our office in Ann Arbor has been an exclusive buyer’s brokerage since the late 1980s and this has been a challenging business niche because property listings and dual agency have always been more profitable than protecting home buyers,” said Boyd. “However, for the last 20 years there has been one national association that has been working to help us protect and inform home buyers. We are very excited to have been charter members of the organization and we are still excited to be involved with these consumer advocates and educators. A hearty congratulations to NAEBA from Ann Arbor Michigan!”
The Home Buyer’s Agent of Ann Arbor is the oldest Exclusive Buyer’s Agency in the state of Michigan and has helped hundreds of home buyers save millions of dollars on their home purchases. Since Exclusive Buyer Agents only represent home buyers and never sellers, these companies avoid the conflicts of interest of traditional real estate companies and offer home buyers 100% loyalty.
