Dr. Elaine Yoshikawa began her collegiate career as a classical pianist, tapping into her creative, emotional, and spiritual side.  She left that behind when she opted to study philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley.  She received her B.A. in philosophy, and shortly thereafter found herself working as a computer programmer/systems analyst. After five years, her job redirected her back into philosophy; she was a member of an artificial intelligence project that reignited her interest in philosophy.

Several years later in 2014, Elaine was guided by an intuition that forcefully insisted that she visit Sedona, AZ.  Within a couple of weeks, her inner prompting was reinforced by an email that appeared suddenly in her inbox that invited her to a writer’s retreat in – you guessed it!  Sedona, Arizona, hosted by author whisperer, Tom Bird. Taking a leap of faith and sensing she did not have much choice in the matter, she attended, unsure what to expect.  The end result was The Shift Journey: Spirituality, Virtues and Unconditional Love, now in print.

Dr. Yoshikawa says, “I realized that mankind is in the midst of a massive cultural awakening, a shift from worldly values that seem to perpetuate anger, stress, and anxiety, to spiritual values that embody kindness, gratitude, joy, compassion, and unconditional love.”

The Shift Journey: Spirituality, Virtue, and Unconditional Love examines Pierre Teilhard de Chardin’s claim that you are a spiritual being having a human experience. The author regards this succinctly deep insight as a clarion call to live authentically and with purpose.  Authenticity requires acknowledging your deeper soulful nature and the recognition of your soul’s unique purpose.

This book is balanced between a reasoned philosophical discourse and an inspirational spiritual account of the kind of life we can aspire to lead: an authentic life of virtue, a life of unconditional love, and a life of purpose and human flourishing.

Pierre Teilhard de Chardin said, “What paralyzes life is lack of faith and lack of audacity. The difficulty lies not in solving problems but expressing them. And so we cannot avoid this conclusion: it is biologically evident that to gain control of passion and so make it serve, spirit must be a condition of progress. Sooner or later, then, the world will brush aside our incredulity and take this step: because whatever is the more true comes out into the open, and whatever is better is ultimately realized. The day will come when, after harnessing the ether, the winds, the tides, gravitation, we shall harness for God the energies of love. And, on that day, for the second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire.”
