Nellie Bly fans living in Boston, Philadelphia and New York City who are anxiously awaiting the premiere of 10 Days In A Madhouse will be delighted to hear that the film will be opening in Theaters one week earlier in their cities on November 11th, Veterans Day, ahead of the November 20th nationwide release date.
The upcoming biopic, based on trailblazer journalist Nellie Bly’s 1887 book of the same title, will open in U.S. Theaters in Boston, Philadelphia and New York City on November 11th before opening in Theaters nationwide on November 20th. The film accurately portrays Bly’s true story where, as a journalist working for world-famous newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer, she convinces everyone she is insane in order to be committed to New York City’s most disreputable women’s lunatic asylum and report on the conditions within.
Bly’s unprecedented courage lead to social reform and a drastic increase in hospital funding. Because of her journey, people started to engage in important conversations about the treatment of women, and the treatment of the mentally ill. These conversations are still vitally important today.
Nellie Bly is an inspirational historical figure who Life Magazine recently named as one of “100 Women Who Changed The World”. On Nellie Bly’s 151st birthday, 10 Days In A Madhouse which has a cast of over 90% women, was the opening film for Geena Davis’ inaugural Bentonville Film Festival celebrating women and diversity and played to a sold out performance. The Bentonville premiere coincided with the publishing of a Google musical video doodle on its search engine page in honor of Bly; the first time Google commissioned a song for a doodle. Business Insider reported it as one of Google’s top five doodles ever.
That same month the movie premiered internationally at the Cannes Film Festival where the packed audience of top media professionals and critics alike praised the film for its emotional depth.
Jack Kindberg, former president of Sony Studios said that 10 Days In A Madhouse is “a winner, an emotionally powerful film that connects with everyone in the audience.” Renowned Danish actress and model, Janne Kindberg, stated that it was “the best film at Cannes this year.” The week the movie played at Cannes, 10 Days In A Madhouse was tracked by Variety Magazine as the 3rd top trending movie on the internet.
Caroline Barry makes her big screen debut as Nellie Bly. Chosen by acclaimed director Timothy Hines out of 8,000 hopefuls in a world-wide search, Barry is most certainly our next great American actor. She has steadily been gaining buzz in the media for her powerful performance that carries the film. Joining a long list of actors who have portrayed iconic real life figures, like Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln and Julia Roberts as Erin Brocovich, Barry is expected to garner several nominations for Best Actress this award season.
Christopher Lambert (Highlander, Mortal Kombat, Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan), Kelly Le Brock (Weird Science, The Woman In Red) and Julia Chantrey (Mean Girls, Mama) also star. Christopher Lambert’s performance in 10 Days in a Madhouse is being called “his best in years”, which he has attributed to playing off of the beautiful and gifted Caroline Barry. Lambert has called her one of the most talented actresses he has worked with in his decades long career as a movie star.
10 Days In A Madhouse was originally set to open in September but was pushed to November 20th in order to position for the 2016 Academy Awards nominations. The 10 Days team includes Marc Bovee handling national sales, and Shannon Gorman working as the film’s exhibition publicist. Bovee is a former executive at Universal Pictures for 25 years and Gorman previously worked with 20th Century Fox Searchlight for fifteen years. Both Executives agree with veteran Hollywood insiders that the film has strong Academy Award and Golden Globe potential.
The 10 Days In A Madhouse team is thrilled to announce that they will have advance theatrical openings for Boston, New York City and Philadelphia (where Nellie Bly hails from), on November 11th, Veterans Day. Fans not living in these cities will be able to see the film in Theaters when 10 Days In A Madhouse opens nationwide on November 20th.
