The non-profit brought in roughly $65,000, despite inclement weather.

For Lake Wylie Children’s Charity, a South Carolina non-profit dedicated to aiding kids with life-threatening diseases, the annual benefit concert is the most significant day on the calendar – the top fundraising event of the entire year.

The concert is typically an outdoor affair, held on Lake Wylie itself, in which local bands and DJ Big Sexy from WSOC 103 provide the soundtrack to games, bake sales, and other fun events. This year’s concert seemed poised for trouble when Hurricane Joaquin sent savage weather through the area – but despite less-than-stellar conditions, Lake Wylie Children’s Charity ended up having its best fundraiser ever.

“Due to the nasty weather, we were forced to move the concert inside, to T-Bone’s on the lake,” comments Haven Presley, who chairs the charity’s Board of Directors. “I thought for sure this would lead to a dip in proceeds – but the opposite happened! We had an amazing turnout and a great deal of fun, and it looks like we raised roughly $65,000 – up from $53,000 last year!”

Lake Wylie Children’s Charity has been holding these concerts for 13 years now, all with the intent of assisting local families whose kids have received dire diagnoses. This year’s event was held to support Jaxon Clark, a five-year-old with a rare genetic disorder, and Kelsey Funderburk, a 14-year-old with a perilous brain tumor.

“We could not have done this without the support of T-Bones, the bands who played, DJ Big Sexy, and Carolina Panthers mascot Sir Purr,” comments Jennifer Joye, the charity’s Executive Director. “We especially want to thank those who donated to our silent auction, those who donated bake sale items, and all of our wonderful, dedicated volunteers!”

Concludes Presley, “Despite the circumstances, this was our best year yet, and we’re so grateful to everyone who made it happen.”
