PLANTATION, FL – 11/6/2015 (PRESS RELEASE JET) — Amazon.com has announced that it is shutting down its Amazon Register merchant credit card processing service as of February 1, 2016. Amazon Register has already stopped accepting new customers.
Merchants left stranded by the move are being advised to sign up as soon as possible to accept credit cards through Charge.com to avoid disruption in their merchant account service.
Charge.com’s discount rate (the percentage of each sale that is charged to the merchant for qualified credit card transactions) is only 1% for both swiped and manually-keyed transactions, far lower than Amazon Register’s rates of 2.5% for card swiped transactions and 2.99% for manually keyed transactions.
Charge.com also offers a payment gateway that allows merchants to expand their business beyond face-to-face retail sales, enabling them to accept payments over a website. Charge.com merchant accounts are also available with a virtual terminal, enabling businesses to manually key-in credit card orders taken over the phone, by fax, and by mail. And regardless of whether the transaction is swiped or keyed, transactions still qualify for Charge.com’s 1% discount rate.
“This is an opportunity for Amazon Register customers, or for anyone who was thinking about signing up for Amazon Register, to actually trade up to an even better service that offers more versatility with better rates,” said Charge.com President, Greg Danzig. “And Charge.com has been in business on the Web for more than 20 years, and we’re not going anywhere, so losing service in the future is something that Amazon Register merchants won’t have to worry about any more.”
For merchants who want to sign up with Charge.com both to avoid a disruption in service and also to take advantage of Charge.com’s better rates and additional features can sign up at Charge.com’s website at www.charge.com.
On the Web since 1995 and rated the #1 merchant account provider six years in a row, Charge.com is one of the oldest and most respected credit card processors in the world. Charge.com has received the highest possible ratings from both Apple Computer and AOL. Virtually any legal business can sign up for a merchant account with Charge.com by going to www.charge.com.
