Washington, D.C.: On Tuesday, November 24th, President Barack Obama will present Bonnie Carroll and sixteen recipients with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Nation’s highest civilian honor. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is presented to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.
Bonnie Carroll is a Major in the Air Force Reserve and the President and Founder of the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS). She has devoted her life to caring for our military and veterans. Ms. Carroll founded TAPS after the death of her husband, Brigadier General Tom Carroll, to provide support to those impacted by the death of their military hero, bringing healing comfort and compassionate care to the living legacies of our Nation’s service and sacrifice.
“Bonnie Carroll and the TAPS program represent all that is good in the circle of military families around the globe. She experienced hardship and immediately took it upon herself to make things better for others. Over the years, she has helped thousands of children and military spouses experience immediate comfort in their time of need. We are blessed for her service”, said Brigadier General (Retired) Jeffrey Horne, CEO of IVET Solutions.
