Occupying 80% of the global trade, Turkey has complete control of the dried apricot market. In 2014, Turkey exported 78 thousand tonnes of dried apricot totaling 346 million USD, 10% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was the U.S., where it supplied 15% of its total dried apricot exports in value terms, accounting for over 90% of the U.S. total imports.

Overall, the global dried apricot trade reached 429 million USD, with a CAGR of 5% from 2007 to 2014. In physical terms, it declined, falling from 121 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 106 thousand tonnes in 2014.

In 2014, the U.S. (12%), Germany (11%), France (9%), the United Kingdom (8%) and Brazil (5%) were the leading destinations of dried apricot imports, together making up 45% of global imports. The share of Kazakhstan increased (+4 percentage points), while the share of the Russian Federation illustrated negative dynamics (-7 percentage points).

Germany and the U.S. were among the other main global suppliers of dried apricots in 2014, but with a relatively puny combined share of 6% of global exports. The fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were China (+45% per year) and Spain (+42% per year). Even with this potentially stiffening competition, Turkey was still able to strengthen its position in the global export structure, from 79% in 2007 to 81% in 2014.
