One of the most iconic and historic cities in the world is London. It is also one of the biggest cities as well as being one of the most popular. Thousands of tourists visit every year to see the sights and the historic landmarks and is also particularly popular with businesses too with most blue chip companies having a presence there. It is so popular with businesses that it was recently voted number 1 in the world for business by Forbes Magazine in a recent survey of the most influential cities.
One of the key reasons London was ranked number one for business was because of the amount of foreign investment. London is particularly popular with foreign investors as they see it as a growth market and where they can make money, more so than in other cities. Investors are choosing to put their money into London instead of other cities around the world.
Joel Kotkin from Forbes Magazine explains why London is a dominant business hub. “A preferred domicile for the global rich, London is not only the historic capital of the English language, which contributes to its status as a powerful media hub and major advertising centre, but it’s also the birthplace of the cultural, legal and business practices that define global capitalism.”
London has a high concentration of corporate headquarters per capita. 68 of the biggest companies on the Forbes Global 2000 list are headquartered in London and it is the top city in Europe for technology start-ups, according to the Start-up Genome project, which estimates there to be 3,000. Major corporations are seeing the value which is another key metric.
Mr. Steedman from W12 Conferences, a conference centre in London said “Given that London has been ranked the number 1 city by Forbes Magazine, its great transport links and the number of great venues; it is an ideal place to hold a conference. It makes sense to hold a conference in a city with such a huge business culture.”
