China continued its dominance in the global household ceramics trade. In 2014, China’s exports of ceramic household articles skyrocketed, standing at 1.9 million tonnes and totaling 4.9 billion USD, 82% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was the U.S., where it supplied 17.0% of its total ceramic household and toilet article exports in value terms, accounting for 62.3% of total U.S. imports.
From 2007 to 2014, China was a net exporter of ceramic household and toilet articles. In this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. The difference in physical terms was even more pronounced.
Germany and the United Kingdom were among the other main global suppliers of ceramic household products in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were China (+15.6% per year) and the Netherlands (+6.7% per year). By virtue of this ascent, China was able to significantly strengthen its already potent position in the global export structure.
In 2014, China’s top 5 trading partners were the U.S., the United Kingdom, Germany, the Russian Federation and Singapore, with a combined 33.3% share of China’s ceramic household and toilet article exports. The share of Iran increased modestly (+3.4 percentage points), while the share of the U.S. illustrated negative dynamics (-3.5 percentage points).
