The First Night Virginia 2016 planners have announced the schedule and locations for their upcoming New Year’s Eve celebration. The 34th Annual Celebration is set to offer over 70 entertainment options for all age groups from jugglers, magic, music, puppets, spirit walks, and more.

First Night Virginia is pleased to announce details of their 34th annual community “celebration of the arts,” that will take place during the New Year’s Eve celebration from 3:00pm-12:15am on and around the Charlottesville Downtown Mall.

The annual celebration event began in Charlottesville back in 1982 when Nancy Rudolf help found the second oldest First Night in the United States. She had gone to the first one in Boston for their bicentennial celebration and thought that Charlottesville with it’s rich appreciation for the arts would be a great place to start another First Night.

The events are family friendly and can be enjoyed by all ages. Parking is free with a wrist band at the Water and Market Street Garages, so you can park once and walk to all events. You also get the benefit of free admission with a wrist band to the Virginia Discovery Museum from 10:00am-8:00pm.

The Paramount Theatre will showcase two performers with international touring experience. Taylor Matthews, a Louisiana-bred acoustic singer songwriter with soul, who was also an America’s Got Talent Finalist, and the “World Champion Juggler” Scotty Cavanaugh, who has performed in over 30 countries.

“We are excited to offer a diverse slate of entertainment options for all ages from a puppet show that has performed at the Kennedy Center, an aerial circus act, a regional youth orchestra, face painting, creation station, improv comedy, magic, music, dance, spirit walks and more,” Drake Van de Castle, President of First Night Virginia noted, adding one surprise gem is the Bubble Wrap Stomp.

Some of the exciting new performances this year are the Sally Rose Band, Two of a Kind , Ron Fetner, Tony & Jeff, Virginia Rambler, Jessica Weaver and Silver Linings, and DMR Adventure All-Stars & Dream Team.

“First Night Virginia would not happen without the wonderful support of our corporate sponsors with our Presenting Sponsor, Sloan Manis Real Estate Partners, as well as  Aker Wade Power Technologies, Omni Hotel, and the City of Charlottesville.” Van de Castle said.

Through December 29 admission for adults is $16; children 6-15 are $6, kids 5 and under are free, and a family pack of 2 adults and 2 children is discounted to $38. Prices go up on December 30.
