From 2007 to 2014, Italy was a net exporter of ceramic tiles, flags and paving. In this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. However, in physical terms, the difference was less pronounced.
China and Spain were among the other main global suppliers of ceramic tiles, flags and paving in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were China (+20.2% per year) and India (+35.0% per year). By virtue of this advanced growth, both countries were able to significantly strengthen their positions in the global export structure.
In 2014, Italy’s top 5 trading partners were France, Germany, the U.S., the Russian Federation and Belgium, with a combined 51.7% share of Italy’s ceramic tile exports. The share of Germany increased (+2.7 percentage points), while the share of the U.S. illustrated negative dynamics (-3.4 percentage points).
