In 2013, approximately 0.9 percent of Wyoming’s population sought substance addiction treatment, which was significantly higher compared to other states in the country. However, this was a 7.5 percent decrease from its 2012 levels. Nevertheless, the overall trend for a five year period from 2008 is generally promising at 7.6 percent. Marijuana continue to be the major cause of treatment admissions at 19.5 percent. Synthetic opiates like prescription opioid analgesics only accounted for less than 5 percent of the total number of drug treatment admissions. Whether or not this should be considered a good sign is something that is better left to the state’s drug rehab specialists and experts.
If anything, more than 35 percent of all treatment admissions belonged to the 15 to 17 years old age group, closely followed by those between 12 and 14 at 30 percent. Many of Wyoming’s drug rehabilitation centers now question whether or not the data is an indication of the growing number of drug dependents and addicts in the youth sector of society. Or, is this more a reflection of the general apathy of the adult population regarding the need for drug treatment?
Wyoming’s drug overdose mortality rate for 2014 was considered to be very high compared to most other states. It posted a mortality rate of 19.4 drug overdose deaths per 100,000 population. This was significantly higher compared to its 2013 figures at 17.2 drug overdose deaths per 100,000 population. While this data is a cause of concern for many of Wyoming’s drug addiction center facilities, they know that there simply is nothing that they can do to prevent individuals overdosing with illicit drugs. However, many drug rehab experts are quite optimistic with the increasing trend of drug addiction treatment admissions. And while the data fluctuate year in and year out, if the data of the last 7 years were to be believed in, then one can make a rough assessment of the effectiveness of both the information dissemination efforts of the state and the healthcare services provided by the state’s many drug addiction treatment and rehabilitation providers.
As such Wyoming’s drug treatment centers are further increasing their information dissemination efforts to encourage more and more people to seek treatment for their drug problems. While many still resort to traditional offline marketing activities, a good number of Wyoming’s drug rehab facilities are now taking to the internet to widen their reach. Social network marketing is now given emphasis as a means to generate awareness and hopefully further drive the number of drug dependents seeking treatment from any addiction center in Wyoming. Additionally, treatment centers continuously upgrade their facilities and amenities to provide a truly comprehensive and more responsive drug treatment program. Its healthcare professionals are also updating their competencies to better serve individuals who seek their care.
Wyoming’s overall drug problems may not be as bad as other states but it clearly is not one to be proud of either. As such, everyone in the state is working doubly hard to create an impact in the drug scourge.
