SAN DIEGO, California – February 5, 2016 – Classic Park Brew, a delicious, new beer from a San Diego homebrewer, was recently announced. Classic urban neighborhood ballparks were within the maze of local city streets. From the outside, they resembled warehouses, museums, theaters, or schoolyards. Residential and commercial buildings were nearby. As visitors walked from local sidewalks inside the ballpark, they were greeted by the well-maintained green landscape with brown and reddish sandy patches. Above the field, there were columns, seats, and views of the local neighborhood, which contrasted sharply with the natural green grass.
Throughout the 20th century, many Americans made visits to the ballpark, and this helped them forget their troubles of the day. Ballpark visitors came from all walks of life and ethnic backgrounds; rich and poor, famous and anonymous. More than any other location of a city, the neighborhood ballpark brought people together; they convened to witness the drama that would unfold on the ball field. Gradually, as over a half century of time had elapsed, these monuments showed deterioration. The ballparks and their surrounding neighborhoods became old, obsolete for travel and parking, and costly to provide safe and adequate maintenance. From about the 1970s onward, the days of driving through the neighborhood streets to watch a game at these historic venues became a rapidly dwindling experience, with stadium after stadium falling to the wrecking ball.
Today, just about all of the old 20th-century ballparks are torn down, a vanished luminescence. Regardless, vivid memories do remain. The sport of baseball and the ice cold beer are linked together in the national consciousness. To help recapture the moments from games at these ballparks, the combination of the long-gone stadium and the beer vended at these razed ballparks was conceived as Classic Park Brew. The beer would be made under the banners of these classic ballparks. This family of beers would be made with the same pride that was involved with the construction of the old ballparks, brick by brick.
