Linbeck Group, a technology-driven building construction firm, was awarded “2015 General Contractor of the Year” and “2015 Project of the Year between $5 – $20 Million” for its KIPP Unity Primary School at the 19th Annual Excellence in Construction Awards Gala. The American Subcontractors Association-Houston Chapter presented the awards on January 29, 2016 at the Junior League of Houston.
Accepting the “General Contractor of the Year” award on behalf of Linbeck were Rick DiDonato, Superintendent and Tommy Cole, Client Executive.
“We are honored to receive this award,” said DiDonato. “Not only does this recognition underscore our company’s philosophy of building trustworthy relationships, it demonstrates the commitment of every team member to deliver those values to every project on which we proudly place the Linbeck name.”
The “Project $5-$20 Million” award was accepted by Ike Allen, a Senior Project Manager for Linbeck who managed the KIPP construction project.
KIPP Unity Primary School, part of a two-school campus in southwest Houston at the site of the former Sunbelt Spas manufacturing and retail facility (8500 Highway 6 South near Beechnut), features 41 classrooms, a cafeteria / indoor recreation area, a computer resource and learning center, refurbishment of an existing 4,000 square foot outdoor covered area into a new play space, and a new 10,000 open-air athletic pavilion located between the primary and middle schools. Site upgrades include the addition of grass playfields, new sidewalks, a bus drive, parking lots and security system. The school opened its doors to students Fall 2015.
“We found creating a school from an old industrial building that required remediation and selective demolition took imagination, time, perseverance, foresight, and special uses of cutting-edge technologies,” said Allen. “Thanks to the collaborative efforts of our trade partners, we completed the project early and under budget.”
