Grand Ledge Dystonia Patient becomes a Leader in the Lansing Area
LANSING, MI – 08 Feb, 2016 – The Dystonia Medical Research Foundation welcomes Gina Rosendall-Saucedo as a Support Leader in charge of the Mid-Michigan Dystonia Support Group in Lansing, Michigan. This support group will accompany many successful groups throughout the United States with the mission of bringing patients, family, friends, and others together with the primary goal of understanding the emotional needs of dystonia patients and the psychological effects of the disorder. The group will kick off its first meeting on Monday, March 14, 2016 at the Delta Township Library, 5130 Davenport Drive, Lansing.
Dystonia causes uncontrollable muscle spasms that twist the body into involuntary movements and awkward postures that may be tremendously painful. Dystonia is frequently misdiagnosed and is frequently undetectable by physicians other than Neurologists specializing in movement disorders. Prompt diagnosis is critical because the psychological effects associated with misdiagnosis of a chronic illness can be life threatening.
Like many patients, Rosendall-Saucedo was misdiagnosed and endured two unnecessary surgeries and multiple invasive testing procedures with 12 physicians over a two year period before she was accurately diagnosed with Dystonia. But despite such limitations, Rosendall-Saucedo followed her dream of obtaining her Masters Degree and recently earned a Master’s of Science in Psychology with a specialty in Health Education. With this degree, she is committed to giving back to the community and supporting those with neurological movement disorders such as dystonia and their family and friends.
The Mid-Michigan Dystonia Support Group will kick off their first meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Delta Township Library – McLean Room with light refreshments and social time available from 6:00-6:30 p.m.
More information about the meeting can be obtained by contacting Gina Rosendall-Saucedo at firstname.lastname@example.org
