China continued its dominance in the global motor trade. In 2014, China exported 2,640 million units of motors totaling 5,254 million USD, 11% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was the U.S., where it supplied 17% of its total motor exports in value terms, accounting for 22% of the United States’ total imports.
From 2007 to 2014, China was a net exporter of motors with an output below 37.5 W. Over this period, exports consistently exceeded imports both in value and physical terms.
Germany and the U.S. were among the other main global suppliers of motors in 2014. The fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were Switzerland (+8% per year) and the U.S. (+6% per year). Still, it was China that continued to strengthen its position in the global export structure.
China’s top 5 trading partners in 2014 were the U.S., Japan, Germany, the Republic of Korea and Thailand, with a combined 44% share of China’s motor exports. The share of the U.S. increased (+5 percentage points), while the share of Japan illustrated negative dynamics (-5 percentage points).
