Most new parents are awash with advice when it comes to becoming parents for the first time. Friends with children already and not forgetting the grandparents, it can sometimes feel overwhelming the amount of information that needs to be digested by the couple expecting their first child. This why it is the simple things that often get overlooked says Bathroom Organizer manufacturer, The BTO Company.

A spokesperson explained, “Childproofing is one of those jobs that every new parent must address in the weeks leading up to the delivery of a first child. When all the big things are covered like stairs and kitchen, sockets and drawers, it’s often the simple little things that get overlooked. In the bathroom for example, it’s easy to think of the guards for the taps and non slip mats for the bath, putting all the appliances in childproof locked cupboards etc. But the proliferation of items grows exponentially once the baby is born and toys and other items start to accumulate in ever increasing numbers. The bathroom is the second most likely place for an accident to occur and its not only the baby or toddler that needs protecting from slipping on toys and other baby paraphernalia that may up littered around the bathroom. Falls by parents are as much of an issue as potential harm to the baby, so getting organized is a top priority to help prevent potential accidents from happening.”

Here are some simple rules to follow to prevent accidents to you or your child in the bathroom:

  1.  Install a hook-and-eye lock high on the outside of the door to prevent unsupervised access.
  2. Install a toilet lock. Babies are top-heavy and could easily fall in headfirst and drown.
  3. Put all sharp objects in a locked cabinet out of your baby’s reach.
  4. Keep all toys and other bathroom essentials stored in a safe above ground place to prevent slipping on them before, during or anytime you are using the bathroom.
  5. Unplug all electrical appliances that create heat. Keep in locked cabinets and put them away after each use to prevent burns.
Keep all cosmetics and medications in a cabinet secured with a child-safety lock.
  6. Place a non-slip rubber mat in the bathtub and a non-slip bath mat on the floor next to the tub to prevent falls.
  7. Put a soft plastic or rubber guard over the tub spout to protect your baby from accidentally bumping his head.
  8. Never leave your baby alone in the bathtub, not even for a few seconds.

“The Bath Toy Organizer can assist in keeping everyone safe in the bathroom” the spokesperson continued, ” We have made it large enough to be able to cope with a myriad of toys and other bathroom accessories. Our extra set of heavy duty suction cups mean that you can place the toys over the bathtub without the need to worry that it is going to tumble into the bath and lets the child have access to all their toys whilst playing in the tub. The mesh design also means that toys dry quickly after bath time is over and our anti-fungal material ensures that no bacteria or mold will accumulate. Baby or toddlers can play safe, and the parents won’t slip or damage knees or worse by standing or kneeling on a toy.”
