TORONTO, Canada – 1 Mar, 2016 – Allan Munro had a dream that one day there would be a safe place for smartphones to rest and charge. That vision became a reality the moment he created the Curity Smart Lamp. In his workshop in Toronto, Canada, Munro developed a contemporary lamp made of solid American Black Walnut with an integrated smartphone charging station. The prototype is finished and now he is ready to distribute the Curity to the world. Allan launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $3,000 CAD by March 24, 2016 to fund distribution efforts.
The Curity combines a smartphone dock with a contemporary lamp, which also has an optional LIFX color 1,000 wifi bulb. The partnership with LIFX includes a bulb that can be controlled wirelessly. Users can download the LIFX app to control the lamp via their mobile device. There’s a removable dock insert available, in case smart phone manufacturers decide to change or update their charging devices. The universal dock insert fits all new and old phones up to 10 cm wide. For versatility, the Curity comes with two docks, one for the front side or side view. This can be rotated in 45-degree increments to allow for easy viewing of the phone at any angle. The docking station comes in three different finishes – natural, dark, and gloss.
