It can be difficult for parents and teachers to understand the complicated educational guidelines handed down by state and federal officials, but there is a new digital tool that has simplified these complexities: Exploring the Core. Designed by a veteran, multiple-subject educator, Greg Mullen, Exploring the Core offers an easy-to-understand analysis of educational standards for each subject across thirty skills from kindergarten to grade five. This tool will not only allow parents to identify key benchmarks, but it will allow them to collaborate closely with teachers to effectively nurture learning.

Exploring the Core uses an aesthetically pleasing visual format that enables users to easily distinguish skill sets and grade levels. The app offers a matrix of skill progressions that users can manipulate with a simple swipe horizontally to view how skills develop across grade levels, and vertically to view all skills within a grade level. The easy-to-navigate design should assist teachers and administrators in cohort planning, and enable parents to readily understand curricula objectives.

It took more than a year of careful investigation for Greg to identify all of the standards for California teachers, then design the app and develop it. He is planning a May launch of the California iOS version of Exploring the Core for Elementary Math K-5. Eventually, Exploring the Core will include similar apps for all 50 states in grade K-8, but this initial release will detail its core functionality and its key benefits for parents, teachers and administrators. Greg will offer the initial version to education stakeholders and implement a marketing strategy to invite adoption.

In order to make Exploring the Core the success it deserves to be, Greg and his team has sponsored a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to raise $5,000. In return for supporting this historic project, you can get valuable perks like the Exploring the Core app for yourself and others, Illustrated Skill Map posters, mugs, pencils, wristbands, and a one hour presentation from Greg Mullen.
