“Healthful snacks are receiving increasingly more and more national attention, as society’s dependence on snacking only grows. Seen here are Cliff Bar and Raw Bite Protein Bar – two meal replacement alternatives.”
The snacking industry has seen an industry-wide flee from long ingredient lists: trending relentlessly toward “whole food” combinations. Market behemoths have struggled to adapt as quickly as the consumer, leaving room for boutique companies to fill the void. Finding those boutique, healthful brands, however, can be challenging – and teaching them how to adapt to global grocery markets is even more so.

When the three Danish friends came together to create their product, the Raw Bite Bar, they did not expect for it to end up so popular – landing in over 30 countries. This fruit and nut bar is revolutionary and simplistic; with only a handful of fresh, organic ingredients in every bar, and no sugar or oil added. With a lack of whole-ingrediant competition in the food bar industry, they have flourished.

The snacking industry has seen an industry-wide flee from long ingredient lists: trending relentlessly toward “whole food” combinations.  Market behemoths have struggled to adapt as quickly as the consumer, leaving room for boutique companies to fill the void. Finding those brands, however, can be challenging – and teaching them how to adapt is even more so.

Adapting to huge national markets like the US is challenging: it’s a fragmented market and enormous – no one solution can apply to every city or state.  It’s easy to see why market giants in the CPG industry have easier access to shelving, but challenging to see how smaller companies will be able to displace them.  The 2016 customer is compulsively driven toward “authenticity” and  “sustainability,” two things noticeably lacking in CPG mega-brands.  So, the boutique brands have the leg-up there, but so few have the experience and infrastructure to support national slotting.

So though there is change on the horizon, the U.S. market is still a quandary for the more healthful snacking alternative.  The Raw Bite team- given there obvious success overseas – is making its debut in US stores: available already in Publix and a handful of other (more progressive) environments.  The team is thrilled to bring their simple delights to an obviously-hungry consumer base.

Says Raw Bite CEO, “The millenial consumer depends on meal-replacement snacks.  Meal replacement snacks are – by any global standard – the fastest growing food category.  We see these numbers everywhere, for a lot of reasons.  Packaged food is so much cheaper than fresh produce and so much easier to carry.  Accessibility to healthful alternatives will be central to a healthy populace in the coming years.  We are providing a simple answer – take a bite of fresh fruits and nuts for a more affordable price.”
