MORRISTOWN, NJ – 28 Mar, 2016 – The Skating Club of Morris New Jersey, a U.S. Figure Skating club; today announced the schedule for the Morris Open competition. The Morris Open will be held April 8-10 at William G. Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown, N.J. The three-day competition includes 352 skaters competing in 111 scheduled events.
“We are excited to have so many, and such a diverse group of skaters enter the Morris Open competition this year and will have an event filled with quality programs that are sure impress,” said Skating Club of Morris President, Katherine Roekaert Davis. “We are looking forward to welcoming the skaters, as well as skating fans of all ages to Mennen Arena.”
The annual Morris Open is now in its 22nd year. Skating competitors will be evaluated by elite judges using a computerized ISU Judging System (IJS) mini-system for IJS freestyle events. Unlike the 6.0 Judging System, with the IJS system, skaters accumulate points for every technical element performed, as well as five program component marks (similar to the “presentation” mark in the 6.0 system). The Morris Open has become a major U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned competition in the North Atlantic Region.
Spectators may attend the Morris Open at no charge, and the event is appropriate for all ages, including families. The higher level freestyle skaters will be competing in the evening on Friday, April 8 as well as throughout the day on Saturday, April 9. Ice dancing events are scheduled for Sunday, April 10.

The Skating Club of Morris, New Jersey is a U.S. Figure Skating member club headquartered at William G. Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown, N.J. The club was founded by the late Sigmund F. Pelson in 1974, in anticipation of Mennen Arena opening the following year.
