Built by a local merchant and shipwright in 1818, the colonial style house at Bishopsgate Inn has been a B&B for 30 plus years now. Owned and operated by the Kagel family for the last 20, Colin and Jane took over the Inn in 1995- updating the B&B with a brand new menu, furniture and amenities. Each room has been carefully designed to reflect the charms of Historic New England and personalized with Kagel family heirloom furnishings and art that was hand-selected by Jane. Initially a retirement project, restoring the establishment was a true labor of love and that commitment to authenticity is reflected in its simply elegant atmosphere.
This month, the Kagel’s will be celebrating 20 years of delighting travelers as the proprietors of Bishopsgate Inn. Almost 70% of guests are returning visitors whose yearly retreat to Connecticut is incomplete without a stay at the popular B&B. In fact, Bishopsgate’s unmatched hospitality is ranked so high amongst area visitors that it has been said: “If you’ve been to Connecticut but haven’t stayed at Bishopsgate Inn – you haven’t really been to Connecticut.”
