New Hampshire Treatment Programs

At Elite Rehab Placement we pride ourselves on taking as much stress as possible out of the rehab process. It’s hard work to call several different rehab centers and listen to their sales team tell you why they are the best possible option for you. We’ve already done all of the research and work with several high quality centers, all over the nation, that we are intimately familiar with.

New Hampshire treatment programs for addiction, just like any other addiction treatment programs, are complex. Addiction has always been treated as a mental health condition. And while studies show that certain mental health issues have an organic pathology, there are no guarantees that identifying and treating the organic problem can return the individual to normal without the intervention of psychology, cognitive, and behavior specialists. It is for this reason that substance addiction treatment programs can take on different forms.

While there may be different drug treatment programs, all of these start with detoxification. In fact, detoxification is considered as the critical first step towards drug treatment. If the addicting substances are not rid from the body, there is a lesser likelihood that any of the drug treatment programs will work. Detoxification needs to be supervised so that any accompanying withdrawal symptoms can be effectively managed, increasing the chances of retention in the drug treatment program. Once detoxification has been completed, the individual can then opt among the different types of treatment programs.

Outpatient Treatment

If the individual’s addiction problem is minimal and has no concurrent organic disease or mental health condition, he is more than likely to be eligible for an outpatient drug treatment program. The program requires the individual to attend his treatment sessions everyday which can last anywhere from 2 to 8 hours per session. After the session, the individual can go home or resume his normal daily activities. However, it should be noted that the individual must be able to show substantial degree of self-control in order to be considered for an outpatient treatment program.

Short-Term Inpatient or Residential Treatment

For individuals who may require intensive yet relatively brief treatments for mild to moderate addictions, they may choose short term treatment programs. These can be implemented in an inpatient hospital setting or a residential facility. Typically, short term treatments are designed after a 12-step program but was modified a bit in order to suit the specific requirements of the treatment. The original treatment called for an intensive 3-6 weeks addiction treatment followed by an extended treatment in an outpatient setting. The extended treatment is often complemented by attendance to social support group sessions in order to help prevent relapses.

Long-Term Residential Treatment

For individuals who may have long standing addictions made complicated by the presence of organic or mental health problems, long-term residential treatment may be needed. Health experts call these programs as therapeutic communities whereby the individual stays in the treatment facility for 6 to 12 months. The focus of long term treatment is the resocialization of the individual. This means that he will have to undergo extensive cognitive restructuring and behavior modification. His psychological and social deficits will have to be addressed in order to allow him to function more normally in the general population upon his return. Treatment goals include the empowerment of the individual to lead socially productive lives and the development of a sense of responsibility and personal accountability.

Under these three types of treatment programs, different therapeutic modalities can be used that focus on the psychological, social, and behavioral aspects of the addiction. These make up the core of addiction treatment programs.
