Incredible documentary shedding light on the struggles children with special needs face.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin – 02 May, 2016 – “In The Land of Canaan,” a documentary feature film that follows a father as he discovers the struggles children with special needs deal with and how this can drastically teach everyone valuable lessons about life.  To share this insightful journey with the world, filmmaker Joey Papa launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $10,000 by May 24, 2016. They have successfully raised half the necessary funding to complete production of the film. Now, all remaining funds are to edit, color, promote and distribute this incredible film.

In the United States alone, 1-in-5 children are born with a special health care need. Joey Papa, a husband, father of 5, filmmaker and advocate for children with special needs, was one of these parents. His daughter, Canaan, was born with a medical condition that required dedicated care.

On October 24, 2015, the filmmaker started a daily video blog series documenting the life of Canaan. Sadly, after her struggles to deal with her special needs for three and a half years she passed away 7 days later. When people hear a story like this it’s so easy to assume that these children and their families are victims of unfortunate circumstances. Yet, what if it’s far from that simple? What if these children are here to teach the world about authentic love, human connection and compassion?

“I spent her whole life praying for a miracle. It wasn’t until she died that I realized Canaan was the miracle.” ~ Joey Papa

Joey Papa believes special needs children teach transformative lessons and carry a message that the world needs to hear. His mission is to give a voice to those without one. The first step in spreading this message is to create a documentary film that showcases and tells the story of children with special needs.

A large portion of the film’s proceeds will go towards establishing The Canaan Foundation, which will create a social network for families with children that are dealing with special needs. Another portion of the proceeds will be donated to Every Child’s Place, Inc., a language and learning center for children with disabilities.

Please keep in mind this is an “all-or-nothing” deal. If the campaign does not reach the funding goal, then the project cannot move forward. So know that any amount given can make a difference. This is also an incredible opportunity to be a part of a special project! Help the campaign reach its goal by sharing this on Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks. The more people know about this, the more support the campaign will receive.
