An innovative solution in the battle to reduce global food loss and waste.

Guadalajara, Mexico – May 13, 2016 – Freshdy™, a revolutionary multi-layer micro-perforated bag, keeps fresh fruits and vegetables hydrated for a longer period, which will help reduce the global problem of food loss and waste. The creators launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $188,000 NZD (US$120,000 ca.) by June 5, 2016. The funds received will be used toresearch and develop ways to lower production cost and make the product more affordable for the masses. 

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, food loss and waste refers to the decrease in the mass of food intended for human consumption, throughout all stages of the supply chain. Food is lost or wasted, from initial production down to household consumption.1.3 billion tons of food is lost or wasted around the world annually. Almost half of all the fruits and vegetables produced are wasted. 

The Freshdy™ team is dedicated to the research of natural packaging and their synthesis along with the application to the market. They focus on creating products that will sustain the freshness of fruits and vegetables longer. After four years of research and development, the solution they unveiled was the stratification of micro-perforated BOPP plastic layers. When applied to the bottom or surface of a bag it extends the time that water vapors are retained. 

Freshdy™ is currently under a worldwide patent registration. It hasbeen accepted as PCT at World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) in Geneve, Switzerland. The patent application is pending for over 32 countries which include: The European Community, U.S.A, Canada, and Mexico. 

Funds raised will also be used for marketing purposes to increase brand awareness throughout the world. For example, participation in trade shows of the packaging sector in Berlin and Dusseldorf, Germany, Milan, Italy, Chicago, U.S.A and Shanghai, China.
