An Intimate Photography Book To Raise Awareness For Sufferers Of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Women share their courage in their battle against invisible disabilities.

Padua, Italy – June 01, 2016 – Chiara De Marchi, a photographer, has launched the Invisible Body Disabilities Project to create an intimate photography book called, “Women Fighters.” It’s a collection of photographs and essays about women living with Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis to raise awareness for those who suffer from the invisible disabilities. A Kickstarter campaign was started to raise €27,000 by July 9, 2016. The funds received will be used to help collect stories and photographs of volunteer models for the book.

Chiara was diagnosed and has been suffering from Ulcerative Colitis since 2009, an Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD). The world fell apart for her that day and a part of her stopped living because she was informed by her doctor that there is no cure. She began a negative downward spiral of hatred for her body. A life changing moment occurred after the many health problems. The birth of Samuele, her son. Becoming a mother motivated her to be stronger. She wanted to share her inner conflict and challenge the disease which had deprived her of many dreams. It was now an opportunity to express herself through as a photographer.

“Women Fighters,” is composed of black and white photographs that accompany stories, narrations and thoughts of women suffering from IBD. The success of the book willenable Chiara to continue her photography to create other ‘Invisible Body Disabilities’ volumes such as people facing cystic fibrosis, women dealing with cancer, endometriosis and more.To collect stories and photographs Chiara needscommunity support. All photo sessions are FREE and the women photographed are volunteers. They want to express themselves and their body by showing strength in their scars and gaze. Invisible Body Disabilities Project will tell their stories and help other people step out of the prejudicial fear and from being invisible.
