Genomic Expression (http://www.genomicexpression.com), first mover in making RNAsequencing actionable in oncology, today announced that it has won the Red Herring Top 100 North America award. The award recognizes leading private companies, celebrating these startups’ innovations and technologies across their respective industries.
“The right diagnostic can save lives by avoiding unnecessary, ineffective treatments and identifying treatments that will work on the specific genetic changes in the individual patient’s tumor,” says Gitte Pedersen, CEO and co-founder of Genomic Expression.
She started Genomic Expression together with her brother after losing both her parents to cancer.
“We are very pleased to be selected as a Red Herring Top 100 North America winner and get recognized for our disruptive OneRNA™ sequencing technology,” said Gitte Pedersen.
Red Herring Top 100 America enlists outstanding entrepreneurs and promising companies. It selects the award winners from approximately 1,200 privately financed companies each year in the United States and Canada. Since 1996, Red Herring has kept tabs on these up-and-comers. Red Herring editors were among the first to recognize that companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, Yahoo, Skype, Salesforce.com, YouTube, Palo Alto Networks, and eBay would change the way we live and work.
“We are working very hard at Genomic Expression to save lives and make healthcare more effective by finding the best drug for the patient and the best patient for the drug, because the unpleasant truth is that only 1 our of 4 cancer treatments prolong lives,” says Gitte Pedersen.
“In 2016, selecting the top achievers was extremely difficult,” said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. “The variety, depth, disruption, and traction we saw from the early-stage companies to those with significant scale made it one of the toughest vintages to judge. The North American winners are representative of the amazing ecosystem that never ceases to astound, with new and experienced entrepreneurs continuing to push the barriers of innovation. As one of the winners, Genomic Expression should be proud of its accomplishment under such strong competition.”
Genomic Expression has received an astounding amount of recognition recently in the form of three large grants and top placement in four pitch competitions, resulting in an invite to Necker Island by Sir Richard Branson.
“We have been recognized by industry experts and also tech investors due to our disruptive cloud-based OneRNACloud™ technology, which is extremely scalable. I am proud of the team – we have an amazing group of very smart people with a ton of startup DNA and are very excited as we are now launching OneRNA™ to assist doctors in navigating patients into the most promising clinical trials in immune oncology,” says Gitte Pedersen, co-founder and CEO Genomic Expression.
About Genomic Expression
Genomic Expression is finding the best drug for the patient and the best patient for the drug by sequencing RNA. Analyzing RNA is able to tell if the tumor will respond to the new immune therapies, which is the only kind of cancer therapy that is a potential cure.
Genomic Expression started as the diagnostic partner in the $32M Danish “Genome Denmark” project, and developed the OneRNA™ platform with the goal of improving outcomes for cancer patients. The management team have significant start-up DNA with multiple exits in genomics, big data and cancer drug discovery and development. Today Genomic Expression has HQ in New York and a lab in Boston.
Genomic Expression is the recipient of a Horizon2020 and Eurostars grant and came in #2 in the Women’s Founders Pitch event in LA (http://www.womenfoundersnetwork.com), selected into the top 5 diagnostic companies at the Molecular Tri-Conference http://www.triconference.com/Molecular-Diagnostics. and in the top 10 companies to pitch for Sir Richard Branson (Virgin Airlines) Extreme Tech Challenge http://extremetechchallenge.com and invited to dinner with Sir Richard Branson on Necker’s Island.
