Drug treatment and rehabilitation programs offer the best solution for individuals who have problems with drug abuse and drug addiction.

The majority of substance addicts are adults there is an ever-increasing trend of drug abuse and addiction among teenagers starting as early as 8th grade. This requires an entirely different approach to their treatment as the psychological and physical profile of adolescents are largely different from adults. And this is what drug rehab programs for troubled teens in Washington are geared up for.

While the target population is different, the principles of treatment adhered to by drug rehab programs for troubled teens are essentially the same. It always starts with detoxification whereby the addicting drug is allowed to be removed from the body naturally. However, depending on the drug to which the teenager has become addicted to and the concomitant physiologic and psychological effects of the drug, the detoxification process can be managed either in an acute medical care facility or a sub-acute residential detoxification center. The difference between the two is that the former will require round-the-clock monitoring and supervision by a qualified medical professional especially when it is deemed that the risk of developing life-threatening drug withdrawal symptoms is great. Sub-acute detox centers will still provide the monitoring and supervision of the detox process of the teenager but there will be less need for a medical professional because of the benign nature of the withdrawal symptoms.

Once the teenager has completed his detoxification, he can then continue his treatment with drug rehab programs for troubled teens. These can be divided into two fundamental programs. The first one is an outpatient type of drug rehab program whereby the teenager has to attend all of his therapeutic sessions as scheduled in an outpatient setting. Each session will typically run from a few hours to not more than 7 hours per day. This means the teenager can still go home and attend school after completing his treatment and rehab session for the day. These types of drug rehab programs for troubled teens is excellent for those with mild addictions.

The other program is a residential type of drug rehab program where the teenager can stay for as short as 30 days to as long as 90 days or even more. In this type of drug rehab program, the teenager will not be going home after every session. Instead, he will living in the facility together with other drug dependents and addicts so that they will learn how to retrain their mindsets and develop more adaptive mechanisms to handle the threat and temptation of drug use in the real world. Studies show that longer-term drug rehab programs for troubled teens are more effective in helping ensure success of the rehab program. The only downside is that the teenager will have to give up school temporarily. The residential type of drug rehab programs for troubled teens is excellent for teenagers who have moderate to severe drug addictions especially those with co-occurring conditions.

These are essentially the drug rehab programs for troubled teens. Now that you have an idea, you can now help someone get the help he or she really needs.
