Gloucestershire/Midlands-based, Ford Electrical has been announced a finalist in the 2016 Gloucester Citizen and Gloucestershire Echo Apprenticeship Awards.
Part of the family-run civil engineering and construction firm, Heming Group, the electrical contractor is shortlisted in the Small Employer of the Year category.
Sponsored by Gloucestershire College, the annual Gloucester Citizen and Gloucestershire Echo Apprenticeship Awards celebrate the best and brightest apprentices in the county and will culminate in a glittering awards’ evening on 7 July at the prestigious Cheltenham Racecourse.
“For the last 10 years, we have taken on one apprentice each and every year,” said Ford Electrical operations director, Jack England, himself a former apprentice. “This year, we further increased the number of apprentices recruited annually to three. We thought now was a good time to submit an awards entry and are thrilled to be a finalist.
“All our apprentices undertake an extensive four-year apprenticeship programme – a mix of classroom learning (day-release) at a local college and on-site construction work managed and mentored by our senior electrical engineering team.
“Over the years, we have maintained an on-going commitment to our apprenticeship scheme, giving local young people an opportunity to thrive, learn a recognised trade, and enjoy long-lasting careers for many years to come. As a small business, we invest heavily in our apprentices throughout the process with a guaranteed job offer on successful completion of their apprenticeship.”
Since its launch in 1991, the electrical business continues to excel in state-of-the-art, modern electrical project design, installation and maintenance for commercial and industrial projects across Gloucestershire and beyond.
Added Peter Heming, managing director of Heming Group: “It’s quite an achievement for Jack and his team to be recognised in this way. I am a firm believer that you can nurture a willing spirit. You don’t have to go to university to get ahead in life and the success of our apprentices shows just what an important role they provide in the future of our business. For those businesses that have never given serious thought to apprentices I recommend that they should.”
