Cape Town, South Africa – July 05, 2016 – Dayne Malan, co-founder of TinToy Productions, launched a campaign seeking community support to raise $150,000 by July 27, 2016, for his documentary, The Great Busk. The goal of the film is to create ONE song with ten buskers from ten different cities without them ever meeting one another, while sharing their stories. Funds received will be used to cover film festival submission fees, hire crew members, purchase production gear, travel the ten cities, and complete post production.
Dayne is a musician who comes from a very musical family. He’s played in bands as well as written and recorded many songs across a variety of genres. His musical knowledge includes piano, guitar, drums, Jazz, Rock, and Ska reggae. Dayne is also a film-maker who is passionate about cinematography and is versed in editing and sound design, which are skills he acquired during film school.
The world is filled with a diversity of people and cultures, but the one thing that connects all is music. In today’s rapid society, talents of buskers are often overlooked on a daily basis. People rarely stop to appreciate the great talent that’s right in front of them. This film will provide an honest impression of these buskers while creating a collaborative song without the help of any external source or influence.
This “run ‘n gun” documentary will be shot in a loose hand-held style. The camera will always be rolling to make sure there is no shortage of footage and to capture “off camera” authentic moments.
